In Sikh faith, the Hukamnama is a divine order or command taken from the Guru Granth Sahib Ji. It is recited at specific times and occasions, primarily in the following contexts:

Daily at Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) – Every morning, a Hukamnama is taken after the early morning prayers (Asa Di Vaar) from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji at the Golden Temple in Amritsar. This daily Hukamnama is considered a message from the Guru for Sikhs worldwide.

During Gurdwara Services – At any Gurdwara Sahib at the time of early morning  Parkash time and after the completion of prayers (such as Anand Sahib and Ardas), a Hukamnama is taken from the Guru Granth Sahib and read aloud to the Sangat (congregation).

At Gurdwara Sahib, Granthi Ji MUST explain the meanings/message contained in the Hukamnama to the Sangat (Congregation).

Personal Guidance – Sikhs often take a Hukamnama when seeking spiritual direction or guidance. This is done by respectfully opening the Guru Granth Sahib Ji at random and reading the first verse on the left-hand page.

Special Occasions – Hukamnamas are also taken on important days such as Gurpurabs, weddings (Anand Karaj), and other significant religious events.

The Hukamnama is treated as the Guru’s divine will, guiding Sikhs in their daily lives with wisdom and inspiration.
